For Stage 1, I attempted to apply a classic element of street photography to my active work where I would choose the frame. As John Szarkowski describes "Photography is choosing where to point your eye-cone." Stage 1 holds a mixture of portraits, emotion, and selection; and I thought of these elements as principles when I went out.

I wanted to catch people in a moment, to display the subjects in their chosen state. Street Photography as an act is risky, and can come with complications and disruption. Due to this it is essential to be honest in the work, how and where you invade a random persons privacy for a selfish outcome of a good picture is, an important consideration. Thus to carefully curate the frame is mandatory; not only to get the image you want, but also to represent the subject as well as possible.

In my edits I took inspiration from some of Andy Warhol's work in pop art. Instead, I applied the face layering into the image instead of them being ordered separately.

EXTRAS

These images I took in Manchester at a similar time to the selection above, however I took less photos. Notably I also used a different camera ; the first section of this stage I used a Fujifilm X-70, and for the second section, I used a Canon G-9. The G-9 has to have a higher ISO in comparison to the X-70, and in turn, applies a heavier grain to the images, whereas the X-70 creates a sharper, more detailed photo.

"I like photographing the English landscape in the winter, because it's naked and it's cold and it's lonely" - Sir Don McCullin

These images from the beach are inspired by some of Sir Don McCullin's work on landscape photography. As it is not street photography its not technically relevant here, however I think the images provide a similar mood and sense of description as my street photography.
